翻譯技巧——正反、反正表達(dá)法！

Negation在語(yǔ)法與翻譯兩個(gè)不同學(xué)科中含義不盡相同。Negation 作為一種翻譯技巧，它主要指在翻譯實(shí)踐中，為了使譯文忠實(shí)而合乎語(yǔ)言習(xí)慣地傳達(dá)原文的意思，有時(shí)必須把原文中的肯定說(shuō)法變成譯文中的否定說(shuō)法，或把原文中的否定說(shuō)法變成譯文中的肯定說(shuō)法。因此，翻譯技巧中的Negation譯成“正說(shuō)反譯、反說(shuō)正譯法”是比較合適的。而語(yǔ)法中的Negation則譯成“否定”，因?yàn)樗侵赶旅嫠姆N語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象：

1.Full negative(完全否定)；

2. Absolute negative（絕對(duì)否定）；

3. Semi negative(部分否定) ;

4. Words, or phrases, with negative implication（含否定意義的詞或短語(yǔ)）。

前兩種否定，除少數(shù)情況外，英語(yǔ)漢語(yǔ)中差別不大；而后兩者否定，在英漢兩種語(yǔ)言的運(yùn)用中則差別較大，需要特別注意。從下面的例句中，可以體會(huì)“正說(shuō)反譯，反說(shuō)正譯”在翻譯中使用的一些情況。

1.I don’t think Tom is correct.

我認(rèn)為湯姆不對(duì)。（不譯成：我不認(rèn)為湯姆是不對(duì)的）

2.我想小李明天不會(huì)來(lái)了。

I don’t think Xiao Li will come tomorrow.

（不譯成：I think Xiao Li won’t come tomorrow.）

3. A: Are you not going tomorrow?

B. No, I’m not going.

甲：你明天不去嗎？

乙：是的，我不去。

4. ①Africa is not kicking out Western Imperialism ②in order to invite other new masters.

①非洲踢出西方帝國(guó)主義②并不是為了請(qǐng)進(jìn)其他新的主子。（假如不運(yùn)用“正說(shuō)反譯，反說(shuō)正譯”這一技巧，譯文就會(huì)成為：“非洲不踢出西方帝國(guó)主義為了請(qǐng)進(jìn)其它新的主子?！逼淞x則大相徑庭。）

5. The world today is far from peaceful.

今天的世界還很不安寧。（far from是一個(gè)形式上肯定而含有否定意義的短語(yǔ)或詞組，所以要“正說(shuō)反譯”。）

6.我們的人民解放軍無(wú)愧于偉大的人民軍隊(duì)的稱號(hào)。

Our PLA is worthy of being called a great army of the people.

7. 他盡力克服技術(shù)資料的不足。

He tries his best to overcome the lack of technical data.

8. 窗戶打不開(kāi)。

The window refuses to open.

9. 昨天他沒(méi)準(zhǔn)時(shí)到校。

Yesterday he failed to get to school on time.

10. 他們不準(zhǔn)小孩入內(nèi)。

They excluded children (from) getting in.

11. 那座大樓處于無(wú)人管理的狀態(tài)。

That building is in a state of neglect.

12. 他常常心不在焉。

He’s often absent-minded.

13. 干這事我力不勝任。

To do this beyond my ability.

14. 雷鋒的高尚行為是贊揚(yáng)不盡的。

Lei Feng’s noble deeds are above all praise.

15. 該做這工作的是我，而不是你。

I, rather than you, should do the work.

16. 事實(shí)爭(zhēng)相同你想的完全不同。

The truth is quite other than what you think.

17. She refrained from laughing.

她忍住了，沒(méi)有發(fā)笑。

18. She was refused admittance by them.

他們不許她進(jìn)去。

19. An opportunity is not likely to repeat itself.

良機(jī)難再。

33. That served to strengthen instead of weaken our determination (or: That strengthened, rather than weakened, our determination.)

那件事沒(méi)有削弱我們的決心，反倒增加了我們的決心。

34. But for the workers’ help, we should not have succeeded in this experiment.

沒(méi)有工人們的幫助，我們這個(gè)實(shí)驗(yàn)便不會(huì)成功。

35. All that glitters is not gold. (or: All is not gold that glitters.)

正譯：閃閃發(fā)光者，未必皆黃金。（或：發(fā)光的并不都是金子。）

誤譯：發(fā)光的一切（一切發(fā)光的）不是金子。

　　上述一些含部分否定的例句并非說(shuō)明“正說(shuō)反譯，反說(shuō)正譯”這一翻譯技巧如何運(yùn)用，而是想說(shuō)明在處理翻譯問(wèn)題時(shí)，要對(duì)這一語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象備加注意，一避免誤譯。

　　在翻譯中，除了部分否定之外，還有一否定現(xiàn)象要特別注意，這就

　　是實(shí)際表示否定意義的雙重否定。一般說(shuō)來(lái)，雙重否定等于肯定（否定之否定等于肯定：Two noes make a yes.），但作為一種粗俗英語(yǔ)或亞標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語(yǔ)，一直被以英語(yǔ)為母語(yǔ)的人們，特別是英語(yǔ)國(guó)家的不少勞動(dòng)人民在使用，表示強(qiáng)調(diào)否定之義。這種雙重否定的語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象在不少書(shū)中，如馬克?吐溫的The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn一書(shū)中使用得很多。遇到這類(lèi)的句子，一定要認(rèn)真研究上下文，弄清它到底是肯定還是否定。如果是一種亞標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語(yǔ)，就不要譯成肯定意思。

1.We never thought of nothing wrong.

正譯：我們從來(lái)沒(méi)想到有什么錯(cuò)誤。（正規(guī)英語(yǔ)為We never thought of anything wrong.）

誤譯：我從來(lái)沒(méi)想到了有錯(cuò)誤。

2.They would not eat themselves, and would not let others neither.

在標(biāo)準(zhǔn)英語(yǔ)中，neither應(yīng)改成 either，所以應(yīng)譯成：他們自己不吃（東西），也不讓別人吃（東西）。
